Afflicted

Today is a day a certain group of people recognize as the holiest day of the year, Yom Kippur, the day of atonement.
You can read about it in Leviticus 16 or 23:27-32.

I will not be sacrificing any bulls or rams today, or going into any temples with a veil on to try and confess and make up for my sins. I repent daily, some days more than others.

I did however, think it would be nice to recognize the atonement made for my sins (which we should be doing every day). Everything we do though should be to bring rememberance to our Elohim, to what He has done, and who He is, what He will do. That's one of the reasons I like Passover so much, even though the ultimate Passover has been accomplished, the celebatory acts of participating in the statute, reminds me. Reminds me of Him. It makes it so real to me.

So this morning arond 7:30 to remind myself of the most ultimate sin sacrifice there ever was or ever will be, I watched The Passion. I cant get through that movie without crying, without being afflicted, because of the affliction my Savior endured. This morning I wanted to bring affliction to myself. I wanted to remember what has been done for me in a very gruesome depiction. The ulitmate sacrifice that was made on my behalf, and yours too (whoever you are reading this).

Isaiah 53:4-12
4 Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9 And they[a] made His grave with the wicked—
But with the rich at His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see the labor of His soul,[b]and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors.


Yahushua came to save us. He came to pay for us. To buy us back. He bore our sin in the most gruesome way imaginable (thanks Mel Gibson for bringing some of scripture's text to the screen). He made it so our father in heaven could forgive us. He makes us new. He gives us a relationship so that someday we can live in paradise with Him.

Yahuah, the creator of this universe, has had everything so perfectly lined up forever. I am learning a little about prophecies in Beth Moore's Daniel study, and let me tell you our god blows my mind. Seeing the way the pieces of history and Yah's truth fit together is absolutely astonishing.

This prophecy in Isaiah 53 has already come to pass, and today I remember.

He was the Messiah, He was the Son sent to bear the weight of the world, and someday...
